Week 4 - 3 Minute Frenzy Stars

This weeks 3 minute frenzy stars go to 3 students who are working hard to get better and write more words within the 3 minutes.  These students may not have gotten the highest scores in our class we like to share the successes that our students make along the way.

Well done Rakai, Aston and Beau for bettering your score from last week.  Can't wait to see what you can all do next week.

Maths Problem Solving

This week children in Team Maunga have been working on a problem that requires sorting, grouping, classifying and discussing their ideas.  It leads to lots of discussions of how to represent numbers and even looking for numbers to add together to quickly find out answers.  Fantastic stuff Team Maunga

Here are a few photos of groups sharing their ideas with the class.  Well done guys.  Can't wait for next week.

Swim Safe with Tracey

Today we had swim safe with Tracey.  We got to practice making huddles and forming lines so we could learn how to work together to stay safe together and look after each other in the water.

We got to practice these on dry land, and then in the water with life jackets on.  It was fantastic to be able to play in the water with life jackets on as this is very different to our normal swimming.  But just as important.

Here is a video that a group of children made up following the session this afternoon.  Thanks Colin, Waiahi, Taysia, Jemima, Nakita and Beau for taking the time at the end of the day to finish this for us.

3 Minute Frenzy

This week we began our 3 minute frenzy work in Team Maunga.  3 minute frenzy is where children practice writing as many words as they can in 3 minutes, the scores children get are then recorded and we will celebrate the improvements that children make in this.

Here are a few examples of work children did in this time this week.
Well done, Kaelan, Nakita and Waiahi!  Top scores this week!

New Fish Tank in Team Maunga Iti

Today, Tyler's nan came to Maunga Iti to visit us and bring us a fish tank and brand new filter from Tyler's Uncle Mike. Inside the fish tank is seaweed and sea snails. Sea snails clean slime off the tank. This weekend, Tyler will catch tadpoles that we will put in our fish tank until they grow legs and become frogs. We are so excited! Thank you to Tyler's Uncle Mike for the donation to Team Maunga Iti.

Special visitor - Dr Colin

Today we were very lucky to have a visitor come in to talk to our children.  Dr Colin brought it a selection of rocks to share and let us look at and wonder about.  This was very hands on and the kids LOVED asking questions.

A few of the children in Team Maunga had been collecting rocks prior to him coming, so listening and asking Colin about these was fantastic.  Nakita had brought in some special rocks from home and this was exciting for the rest of the class as Colin told us all that it contained "fools gold".
Following the visit from Colin, we wrote stories about what we wanted to do when we get older.
We had such a great morning.
