This week we have been learning about Italy and the Italian culture. We have also had a shared book called 'Pizza Face'. We have loved this book and learning about how Italians are famous for their Pizza's. We wanted to try making pizza's for ourselves. We had lots of fun together, and they were delicious too!

Paper Making with Anouk
Today Anouk visited us to help us learn about recycling and reducing our rubbish. We had a great time making paper with her outside on the grass.
First, we got the frame and added a picture frame on top. Then we dipped it into the watery paper pulp and then lifted it out to drain. We then took it over to the material strips and spent some time using a sponge to remove as much water as possible. When we had got rid of as much as we could, we tipped the frame over so that the paper we were making was transferred onto the material. We were then able to remove a little more water from our paper with the sponge.
Once we had removed as much water as possible we hung them up to dry. We can't wait to make cards to give to people out of them.

Special Visitor and Pasta Making - Italy
This week we have been learning about Italy and its culture. Dimitri's family are from this part of the world. Today Dimitri's mum visited and talked with us about Italy. We even learned a few words in Italian.
After she left we started to make pasta. We talked about all the steps and made storyboards of this as well. Mrs. G even gave us a small piece of uncooked pasta to include on our storyboard to match the part where the pasta was added to the pot.
We LOVED our pasta and most of us went back for seconds. We ate ALL of it and still wanted more. We really were 'Master Pasta Makers from Italy'. - We sang this song a lot today as well.

Dry Land - Swimming Safety - Water Safe NZ
Today Corrina from Water Safe NZ visited us to help us learn about how to stay safe in and around the water.
We learned about the help position. This is where cross our arms and hold the top of our life jacket so that we can keep ourselves warm.
We learned about how to signal for help. We talked about how we need to do this when people are nearby and we can get their attention.
We learned about how to huddle up to stay together. We would do this so we could see who is in the group, we can talk to each other, we can look after each other, and keep each other calm. To do this our arms should be underneath each other so we don't end up hitting each other in the face. It's also safer to keep us together.
We learned about wearing life jackets - They are nice and bright so that people can see us. They need to fit us nice and snug.
We tried on a few. Some were Adult size and WAY too big - They slipped over Jakharn's head when we looked to see how this would work. This showed us the importance to make sure they are the right size.

Bertha and the Beeman - Explain Everything
Again we have been working hard in Team Maunga in our reading. This week our shared book was called Bertha and the Beeman. Here are some examples of work that children have produced. They have also been busy learning about bees using our 'BEE AMAZING' site. They are also busy working on the 'create' part of our bee theme with some amazing artwork being produced as well as the creating of stop motion movies. Looking forward to being able to share all this amazing mahi with you soon.
