Bees Wax Wraps - Maunga

Team Maunga was really engaged in the process of beeswax wrap making and 2 groups of children decided to make a movie to share the process on how we would make them and created storyboards to show this.  They then recorded the rest of the class making their beeswax wraps.  They then went back and added to their storyboard.

Once the videos and storyboards were sorted, children worked with Mrs G on editing and trimming these in iMovie.  The groups worked hard on this and were able to cut movies down (Then Mrs G did cut a bit more out as well to make it a better length).  The next day the groups worked on their movies again recording and typing in the words from their storyboards.  Finally, the groups choose backing music and turned its volume down on this, so they could still hear their recorded words.

Here are the movies that have been created.

One of our School Entries for Kaikohekohe Movie

Today we had our showing of the Kaikohekohe Movies so we are FINALLY able to share one of the movies we created in term 3.  The movie was made by Iti and Maunga.  It was based around the movie documentary theme.

To make it we watched a few David Attenborough movies so we could get ideas on what types of shots to take and what kind of voice/style we wanted for our Voice Overs.

Our recordings were shot at different times of the day to capture lots of different events, some were funny, some were serious.  We had so much fun shooting footage for this movie.  Mrs S and Mrs G thought it was halarious watching us finding sneaky places to record from, so they started recording us as well.

Mrs S then helped us to piece it together on the iMac and then we did our 'voice overs'.  We hope you enjoy our movie.

Covid - Can't touch that Movie

Now that our school movies have been Judged we can share this movie with you our Whanau.

We are super excited because one of our movies has been selected to go forward to our Kaikohekohe Movie Event.  We are hoping that COVID won't stop this from happening.

When this other movie has been shared as part of this Kaikohekohe Event we will then share it here on our class blog!

We are super proud of our children and their movie-making efforts.

Farm Scenes Using Stop Motion

Currently, we are doing a fantastic school kit called 'the farming kit'  So lots of our learning at the moment is all about farming and what it is like, the animals, who work on farms and why they are important.

This week we had lots of fun working together to create small movies using the blocks, farm animals, and vehicles that Mrs G brought in.

Some things we have been learning about when making Stop Motion movies
  • You need to set your scene up, where it's not in the way (otherwise it gets broken by accident)
  • You have to take LOTS of pictures
  • Each picture is only slightly different from the last picture (MOVE IT JUST A LITTLE BIT).
  • Your iPad needs to be set up so it doesn't fall over or get moved.
Here are some examples of what we have been doing to practice these skills.

Additional Movie for our school competition

Here is another movie we created together for our school movie competition.  We learned a song and then decided to remake it to reflect what we saw and liked about being at the zoo.  When we got back from the zoo we set up making masks to use in our movie remix.  Finally, they were finished and we were ready.

This is what we did next.

  1. We re-wrote the verses to fit with the animals we had made masks for.
  2. We choose backgrounds for each of the animals we were going to record
  3. We recorded small clips using a greenscreen app called DoInk.
  4. We remade the music to fit our animals and our verses using garage-band.
  5. We merged the music and the video clips together using iMovie on the iMac.
We hope you enjoy watching and start singing to our catchy new tune.

Duffy Assembly

Today we were lucky to have Hayden visiting us from Duffy Books. He told us all about his experiences as a Director and how it all started by reading 3 books that he issued at his school library.
Hayden told us stories about all of the people he has met, including Harry Potter, Ricky Baker, and the stars of the Hobbit movies. We learnt a lot about green screens, body doubles, and making miniatures.
Thank you Hayden for coming to speak to us this morning.

baby shark

Here is another video Team Maunga created together.  Just for fun.  This is a groovy and fun song that we all like to sing, so we decided to do our own version of it.

We hope you enjoy

Learning through Play Week 1 Term 3

Here is a small video of things our little play based learning group have been up to this week.  It shows examples of how their playing has lead into guided learning and when pairing these together this is creating a powerful learning environment and motivation for both writing and further learning.

The purpose of this group is to increase their oral language so that their oral language can assist their learning across the curriculum through these oral experiences.  This then has a spin off effect on their focused learning times as these experiences act as a springboard for further learning.

We can't wait to see what this small group of children achieve next.

Maths workshops

Heidi has the iMovie bug!!!

Today we had our maths workshops.  We decided to take some short snippets of things we were doing.  Heidi saw the opportunity to step up again... Not only has she volunteered to run one of our workshops next week but she also wanted to create an iMovie to show others what we do.

She worked with Legacy and Stella to get this movie published in time to share at our assembly in the afternoon.

Pretty impressive.

Stop Motion Movie Making Instructions

This week during writing time children working with Mrs C Monday and Wednesday were asked to make a  movie explaining the steps of stop motion.

Their first task was to discuss the steps that needed to make a movie.
Write these down clearly for others to read and listen to.
Record the scenes that supported each of the steps.
Piece it all together using iMovie - including adding the written steps.

What a great result they have come up with.  Ruby, Nicole and Heidi did a great job of piecing it together and they did a great job of sharing it at assembly.  Well done.

Heidi I am so proud of you for stepping up and volunteering.  This was not your writing group but when you saw and opportunity to get yourself involved you grabbed it (and nailed it).  To be honest, once you saw the opportunity to get involved.  MAGIC!!!

Stop Motion

This week we have been learning to use Stop Motion on the iPads. Our focus has been to move objects in small steps and learn tips on what makes a good movie.

So far we have found out these things:
  • You need to keep the iPad in the same place.
  • Only move objects a little bit each time.
  • You need lots of shots for one video.
  • A background looks good behind the lego.
  • We need to make sure our hands are not in the shot.
This first movie is by Nakita and Kaelan.

Our second movie is by Kaelan and Harvey.
Our third movie is by Waiahi and Keeara.
Our Stop Motion experts will be showing more kids how to use this app next week.

Learning Time

Here it is the sequel you've all been waiting for!
Harvey, Kaelan, and Rakai have put together a trailer to show some of our learning we do in Room 4.
  • First they brainstormed all the different subjects they wanted to shoot.
  • Next they used a storyboard to keep track of which learning they had taken a photo and video of.
  • Finally they put together all their footage into an amazing movie to share with you.

We can't wait for the third installment 'Playtime!'

Team Maunga's other movies for our school movie competition

Here are 4 more movies that we created for our school movie competition.  They are all about our trip to Auckland.  Our movie judge suggests that we send our movie trailers to the establishments we took them about, as he thought they were fantastic.

We used iMovie on the ipads and constructed trailers as they are an easy way for us to learn about storyline, and inserting videos/images into movies.

Thanks for watching

Our Magic School Bikes Movie

Here is a movie that our children have been working on in class.

First we all talked about what we wanted our movie to be on.  In term 3 our topic was on "up up and away", and many of our children had been interested in finding out more about space and rocket ships.  So the class decided that this was a good topic to do a movie on.

Next we used little sheets of paper to make up a story board where we could draw the scenes that they wanted in their movie.  Next students found images (that were free to use, share and modify) that matched these story board scenes.  We even took some images using our green screen and a rocket ship that we borrowed from Paihia School.  Thank you Paihia school for loaning it to us so that we could use it.

After we had these images stored on our iPad, students recorded each other on bikes in lots of locations around our school, and then we did something that was very unusual.  Children then had to ride their bikes around inside (in front of our green screen).  This was very exciting for all - and seems to be the main highlight of making this movie for many.

Finally students were recorded telling their facts.  These they had to reaseach themselves, and the practice so they could say them loudly and clearly.  When all the recordings were done, children took turns working with Mrs G to assemble it on the iMac.

Backwards Rabbit

Here is the song that we sung in assembly on Friday.  The children in room 5 & 6 recreated the video.  First they created a story board to help them decide what video shots to take, Next they got an older child to help them take the shots and finally we put it all together using iMovie.  We hope you enjoy.

Pepeha Learning

In Te Reo this term we are revisiting our Pepeha learning from last term.  This week Mrs G snuck some of us out into the resource room next to our class to create a class Pepeha movie.  This was so we could revisit what we have been doing whenever we need to.  This is what we call rewindable learning.

We loved going out in small groups to create this movie.  We used do-ink on the iPads, and when we stood infront of the green fabric the background looked different on our iPad.  It made our movie look much more interesting.

We also decided that instead of just putting up a class Pepeha that we would have the question followed by the answer in Te Reo so we could not only practice the different parts of our Pepeha but we could also learn about asking and answering a question.

Enjoy our first movie on this topic, and if you have any ideas of other rewindable learning movies you would like to see on our blog make sure you comment so we can look into creating these.

Here is a video we created of our Teddy Bears Picnic.

We are starting to learn about making movies to help us share our learning.  Here Mrs G was showing us how to take short videos of different things, to make our movies more interesting.  We used Long shots, Medium shots and Close ups.  We liked helping to create this movie because the app we used played music as we were recorded.
