Team Maunga Movies

Here are our Auckland trip movies. We entered them in our School Movie Competition.

This is how we made them:

  1. Took videos and photos while we were on our trip of all our adventures.
  2. Sorted the videos and photos so that it was easy to make a movie about different parts of our trip.
  3. Choose a movie trailer in iMovie and then change the storyboard to suit our trip.
  4. Insert the movies and photos into this storyboard so it matches with our story.
  5. Check and edit our movies to make sure it is as correct as possible.
  6. Upload it
We hope you enjoy watching them.

Recount Story Publishing

Here are some examples of Recounts that have been written this last week.  Super proud of how the children are structuring their writing to include their introduction, body and conclusion.  This helps our children to form a story that is interesting and informative for the people that are reading.  No wonder some of our children are wanting to become authors when they grow up.  Well done everyone.  Keep up the great work.

Maunga Nui and Iti's Assembly 10th May 2019

On Friday we shared our learning at our assembly.
Here are are our movies that show our space writing that we put onto green screen. Nui wrote about a starry night, Iti were using adjectives to describe the sun. Come into our class and have a look at all our published stories on our writing frames.

In the afternoons Maunga Iti have been working with Team Maunga exploring rocket launches into space. Hannah worked with Harley Barlow, Susanna worked with Kaelan, Tyler worked with Rakai, and Andrew worked with Ivy and Daniel S, to create a Stop Motion of a rocket launch. First they had to create their rockets in the LEGO room. Then we learnt how to take lots of pictures moving our rocket slowly each step. When we played our movie it made our rockets look like they were launching into space all by themselves. This week we are learning about gravity. The children choose the activity they want to do over the week to learn and explore more about our theme.
Here are their Stop Motions.

Rocket Coding

Today we have been working with coding in scratch again.  We linked this to our learning in class which is about space and ROCKETS which we are VERY excited about.

Here are a few examples our coding.  Enjoy and don't forget to comment and ask us questions.

Lego Maze Coding

Today Team Maunga split into 2 groups for Coding.  Tanya and Mrs R stayed in the class and learned about scratch and Mrs G took a group into the Library to do some coding unplugged.

Mrs G's group worked with buddies and used Lego to build simple mazes and then had to get their Lego character to move from the start of the maze to collect the treasure at the end.  Keywords for this learning were, forward, backwards, turn, left, right and 90 degrees.

Waiahi also went home and redid this activity to show her parents.  They recorded it and sent it back to school.  Check it out!

Week 10 - 3 Minute Frenzy Stars

Here are this weeks 3 minute frenzy stars.  The children aim to improve their own score and we track it so we can easily see how they have improved.  These children have been choosen as they are consistently showing improvement across the term.  Keep practicing.  Remember the tip from last week about practicing writing word families as this help to speed up writing down simple words.

Well done Waiahi, Harley, Kaelan, and Aston

GREEN ROCKETS FOR BASIC FACTS

Congratulations to these four boys for being able to get 100% in their stage 2-3 basic facts check this week.  They are very excited to be able to trade their red basic facts rocket in for their new green basic facts rocket.  Well done guys.  Can't wait to see how you keep improving.

Looking forward to seeing lots of other kids move onto their green rockets too.

Week 5 Term 1 - 3 Minute Frenzy

Again this weeks 3 Minute Frenzy showed great results.  We are getting quicker at writing words and thinking through word families more to help us do this.  Writing words quickly helps us with both our spelling and our story writing as well, as it speeds us up with writing both sounds and high frequency words.

This week we continued to see children improving their scores.  This week we had someone also get more than 20 words.  Great work guys.  Can't wait to see what we will be able to achieve by the end of the term (and even the end of the year!)

Here are our 3 Minute Frenzy Stars this week.

3 Minute Frenzy

This week we began our 3 minute frenzy work in Team Maunga.  3 minute frenzy is where children practice writing as many words as they can in 3 minutes, the scores children get are then recorded and we will celebrate the improvements that children make in this.

Here are a few examples of work children did in this time this week.
Well done, Kaelan, Nakita and Waiahi!  Top scores this week!

Reading Plays

Every now and again Mrs G brings her iPad in from home.  When she does we sometimes use an app called puppet pals.  This is a great way to record stories and plays, however we don't have it on our school iPads.  This week Mrs G came up with a way to replicate something like puppet pals on Explain Everything.  Here are a few examples.

The First story was the play, The birthday cake that the Hovercrafts reading group had.  They broke into 2 groups to record the whole story.  Enjoy.

Watch out for next weeks version of 'The Terrible Fright'.  It was one of the books that the Water skiers read during the week.  They really enjoyed starting to make this into a play as well, so WATCH THIS SPACE!

Great work everyone!

Escape plans from week 8 - Writing Challenge

Part of week 8's writing challenge had students talking at home and creating escape plans with their parents.  Here are some examples of escape plans that children shared.

Keep up the amazing writing guys it is fantastic to see.  This week we have enjoyed receiving your different and creative ideas about fire safety.

Felicity                               Sienna M

Khloe                                    Harvey

Bailey worked with her mum and dad and came up with different versions with the same meeting place.  They had great fun thinking and talking together.

Kaelan used Pic Collage to share his ideas about his fire plan and safe meeting place.

Nakita created an Explain Everything about her escape plan.

Aiden even made a cool movie about his fire safety plan!

Plant Report Publishing

This week we broke into 2 groups for publishing.  One group published their work by hand to go up on our writing wall, and the other group published on explain everything, so we could share these examples and help us to reflect on our learning.

This weeks writing has focused lots on how we write reports, as a topic to focus on we looked mainly at plants and herbs.  The children really enjoyed going out each morning to gather herbs from our school garden.  On friday we painted some concrete blocks with the words Kawakawa on to support Team Awa's gardening as a thank you.

We talked about reports needing an introduction, followed by information specific to what it is the report is about, and then a conclusion.  Here are some of our finished publishing examples for you to enjoy and comment on.

Stop Motion

This week we have been learning to use Stop Motion on the iPads. Our focus has been to move objects in small steps and learn tips on what makes a good movie.

So far we have found out these things:
  • You need to keep the iPad in the same place.
  • Only move objects a little bit each time.
  • You need lots of shots for one video.
  • A background looks good behind the lego.
  • We need to make sure our hands are not in the shot.
This first movie is by Nakita and Kaelan.

Our second movie is by Kaelan and Harvey.
Our third movie is by Waiahi and Keeara.
Our Stop Motion experts will be showing more kids how to use this app next week.

Welcome to Room 4!

Last Friday we had our first assembly. All the kids spoke so well in front of a large audience to share their learning. Here are two items we shared in assembly. In the first video we are introducing ourselves in Te Reo with our box selfies we made. The second video is a movie we made about getting ready for school. Harvey and Kaelan shot all the footage independently! Keep an eye out on the blog for our sequel - 'Learning Time.'
