Place Value Maths

Recently we have been learning face value, place value and total value and using place value equipment to help us with maths problems.  Below is a picture of us working in pairs to add place value equipment together.

Here are some pictures of what we needed to be able to understand before we could to this activity above.

"We have enjoyed using the place value equipment as we can see what the numbers look like".

Well done Cheyne, Joel, Asbjorn, Kyle, Laylah, and Mikayla. Keep up the great reading!

June Reading Certificates

Well done to our June 60 night certificate readers!  You guys are AMAZING!

We love seeing you progressing in your reading and being able to move your plane around NZ (and the world) to show what level you are on in your reading!  We love that you are so independent in being able to explain to visitors and your parents where you are, what your learning goals are, what you need to do to achieve these goals.  Fantastic!

Well done also to the children who got their 30 Night certificates in June!  Keep it up and you will go far!

PS>  Thanks Jake for the great photography.  Love that you take this on and just do it for our classroom!

Our Skype to Daniel

Joel :  Today we skyped with Daniel over in Canada.  We had lots of fun.

Kyle :  We saw a loader, lots of be birds and also an airstrip.  We have come up with some questions to ask Daniel next time we Skype with him...

'What do you use the loader for?'
'Why did you need to have the fuel brought in to your airstrip?'

Stella :  It was great seeing the Moose antlers that had been painted golden, and the Beaver skull with the orange tooth for chewing wood.  Next time we Skype we want to ask Daniel...

'Why is the tooth Orange that it chews wood with?"
Also what happens now that the ice is melting and their homes are getting exposed?

Mikayla :  We learn't that Daniel and his family carry pepper spray in-case they get attacked by a bear, but that they have to be 3 feet away for it to be effective.  We also learn't that black bears can actually be white as well which sounded really interesting.  We will have to look up more about black bears for next time we Skype with Daniel.
