Te Ra O Te Wiki

This week we have been learning the days of the week in Te Reo.  We have been learning the actions to go with it to help us remember.

So...

To help us remember the days of the week, we created a short movie that we can replay to help us.

Mrs G got Matua to help us work out how to convert this into a Matua/Whaea Says (like Simon Says) game which we hope to present at our assembly in Week 2.  Thank you Frank, Liam and Cheyne for volunteering to take on this role in our assembly!  It is a big one.

Here is the words that we will be using to help us practice our days of the week (as well as other actions that we use in our classroom on a daily basis).

Fifth Installment of Stop Motion Movies

Final installment of these stop motions (THIS TIME AROUND!!!).  I'm sure there will be more just around the corner as the children really enjoyed making these and are constantly looking for opportunities to create some more.  So watch this space!

Get NZ Writing Package

In Team Maunga we have been learning lots about writing letters and postcards this term.  This was leading us up to sending a package to a school in Stratford.  Here are some images of us getting our package ready to send.  Remember to ask us about what we should include in a Letter or Postcard (or ask us about how we use WETA for letter writing / Postcards.  For more information on this please look up other posts on this topic.

Preparing the postcards and messages.

Taking photos to explain the rock we included in our parcel

Revisiting statistics work from the beginning of the year to work out how many siblings we have altogether.  We loved using Tally marks to help work this out.

Researching who could lick their elbow (not all children have photos here so ask your child if this was them).

Working out who our tongue rollers were (again there were more children than we have images of here so ask your child about this).

Sealing the package and Posting it at our Local NZ Post shop.

THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR THIS AMAZING EXPERIENCE WAREHOUSE STATIONARY!

Welcome to Team Maunga!

On Monday the newbies moved into Room 5 and 6 to learn. They are Saxdyn, Frank, Riah, and Heidi. It is so much fun because we can help them. When we play with them they are kind to us.
We love having them in our team!

Reading for Report Writing

This week we have been learning how to write reports.  Mrs Gardiner was back in class today so the Centipede and Snails reading groups were introduced to their independent reading projects for this week and next.

Here are a few examples of their work.  Well done!

Word works.

Today we had a reliever in for Mrs S.  While Mrs G was taking everyone for Word Works, she got her group (us) to recap on our learning from last week, while the rest of the class practiced making and breaking short 'e' words like let, met, pet, peg, meg with her ...  Here are some photos of our independent work.

After these photos were taken, we talked about the words on our list and some changes were made.

Sequencing Publishing - Frank

This publishing uses time sequencing words to sequence my story.  In my story I used first, next, and third.

Well done to our healthy lunch box winners
Ariana, Joe, Frank and Arbey!
Look at their delicious snacks for our trek up Te Ahu Ahu. They all used reusable packaging too. All the lunch boxes last week were so outstanding we had to have a second draw this week.
Mrs Gardiner and Mrs Stevenson are very interested in the recipe for Frank's home made muffins.
