Last Thursday we dressed up as our favourite book character to celebrate Mrs C's last day as our librarian. We had a grand parade through the daycare and around the local community.

We will really miss Mrs C in the library. However we are really lucky that she is coming in once a week next term to volunteer in our class! We're also looking forward to visiting our new librarian, Aimee, in the library.
On Thursday 20th May 2021 we celebrated outside classroom learning day.
We had an outdoor scavenger hunt around the school. We had to work together to search for a range of objects and record our findings with our group.
The winning group for 2021 were Cairo, Tyler, and Abraham. They quickly found the items and worked as a team sticking together throughout the scavenger hunt. They showed great teamwork and listened to each others ideas.
A highlight of the scavenger hunt was being blown away by Matua Ken and his leaf blower!
Today we promoted Anti-Bullying by wearing PINK to school. We had lots of Team Maunga children wear pink to support this cause!
Today we talked with the children about bullying and the importance of accepting people for who they are! We are all unique and different and that is OK! Team Maunga had lots to say about this and how they should always be kind and caring to their peers and ALWAYS awhi our friends and peers.
This term we have been lucky enough to have Matua Hoani come into Ohaeawai School and teach us the "Keeping Ourselves Safe Programme". This programme is run by the New Zealand Police and the aim is;

Over the past two weeks Team Maunga and Maunga Iti have been doing lots of Easter based learning. One particular activity that the children enjoyed was the Easter Challenge around Ohaeawai School! They had to do tasks like; Say Happy Birthday to Mrs Clarke, Find someone whose name starts with a 'T', Sing the alphabet to Mrs Edwards, Solve a puzzle on the iPads and more...
Once the tasks were completed their group were challenged to make a 'nest' for eggs out of anything they wanted - lego, sand, blocks, drawing etc.

This morning Team Maunga and Maunga Iti celebrated their learning for Term One at a whole school assembly. We also had lots of parents join us, we loved having such an amazing audience! Below is the slideshow of everything we did. Please check it out and comment on your children's learning.
This week we used dominos for our maths learning. We looked at odd and even numbers, and number bonds to five. We also challenged them to justify their findings. You may have dominos at home for your child to explore with. Alternatively you could try this digital Dominoes Environment.

This year Team Maunga has a lovely group of learners who are very excited about the year ahead! So are their teachers Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Stevenson.
Today Anouk visited again and we were able to make some really cool bags out of old T-shirts. This is teaching us to look for different ways to use things we have outgrown or no longer need. Now we have some really cool Tog-bags.
To make our T-shirt bags we first had to cut off the sleaves. This was really tricky and we had to learn how to cut not with the tip of our scissors but with the middle of the scissors.
Next, we cut off the neck hem so we were left with a cut edge (a raw edge).
After that, we cut tassels at the bottom of the t-shirt.
Finally, we tied knots to connect the sides. This part was VERY tricky and many of us needed to practice tie-ing knots to start with. Some of us opted to have the bottom of our bags sewn up on Anouks' machine.
We love having Anouk (our local environmental Educator) come and visit it.

This week we have been learning about Italy and the Italian culture. We have also had a shared book called 'Pizza Face'. We have loved this book and learning about how Italians are famous for their Pizza's. We wanted to try making pizza's for ourselves. We had lots of fun together, and they were delicious too!
