Dry Land - Swimming Safety - Water Safe NZ

Today Corrina from Water Safe NZ visited us to help us learn about how to stay safe in and around the water.

We learned about the help position.  This is where cross our arms and hold the top of our life jacket so that we can keep ourselves warm.

We learned about how to signal for help.  We talked about how we need to do this when people are nearby and we can get their attention.

We learned about how to huddle up to stay together.  We would do this so we could see who is in the group, we can talk to each other, we can look after each other, and keep each other calm.  To do this our arms should be underneath each other so we don't end up hitting each other in the face.  It's also safer to keep us together.

We learned about wearing life jackets - They are nice and bright so that people can see us. They need to fit us nice and snug.

We tried on a few.  Some were Adult size and WAY too big - They slipped over Jakharn's head when we looked to see how this would work.  This showed us the importance to make sure they are the right size.
