Our Walk up Te Ahu Ahu

Here are some photos Grace took on our whole school trek up Te Ahu Ahu. We have been learning about the maunga around our community. Matua Ken and Hone shared their stories of our local area with us. We want to find out which maunga is the tallest and what the circle collection of stones were on Te Ahu Ahu, (Mrs G has a photo). The kids are also interested to know if any whanau have footage of the dog trials that have been on Te Ahu Ahu?

Keep an eye out on our blog to see some more photos of the kids from Room 5 and 6 as they climbed up the maunga with Mrs G's Go Pro that we will be posting soon.

Well done to our healthy lunch box winners
Ariana, Joe, Frank and Arbey!
Look at their delicious snacks for our trek up Te Ahu Ahu. They all used reusable packaging too. All the lunch boxes last week were so outstanding we had to have a second draw this week.
Mrs Gardiner and Mrs Stevenson are very interested in the recipe for Frank's home made muffins.

Bush Walk Cameo - Jake

This week we were planning to do a cameo based around walking up Te Ahu Ahu but it was to wet to go so we created some Cameos based round us going for a walk in the bush area just beside our classroom.  Mrs Gardiner gave us an example that encouraged us to think about what we could see, hear, smell, touch (and taste).  Here is my published story.

Our writing goal today were to make sure we had spaces between words and missing lines.

Learning to use Explain Everything

This week we have been learning and practicing how to use 'Explain Everything'.  This is an app on the iPads, that we use to record our learning so we can share it with others.  We also had a collection of children work with Mrs G to create some videos that allow us to REWIND our learning and revisit how to access and save our tasks.

Thank Cruz & Taylor for modeling and recording this.

Thank Mollie and Taylor for sharing this.

We are 'Word Works' Stars!

Yesterday we did our '3 Minute Frenzy'.  We both tried really hard to write as many words as we could do.  Here is a picture of us with our wonderful work.

Healthy lunch boxes

Today we were meant to go for a walk up Te Ahu Ahu Maunga, however it was way to wet and we had to postpone it.  We plan to go Thursday 25th Feb.  As part of this day we were organised to have a healthy lunch box competition.  Check out the video below that shows how clever and healthy the children in room 5 & 6 are.

There were so many fantastic lunch boxes that Mrs S and Mrs G struggled to choose just one winner each.  So they ended up putting the names in a hat, to draw out the winner.  They talked about how some lunch boxes even had lots of re-use-able plastic containers, some of us even talked about how this was better for our environment.

Watch Me!

Our shared book this week is called 'Watch me'.  It is about the life cycle of the frog, so we have been doing lots of work on this.

On Wednesday we had about 13 new class members too!!!   We are so excited to be able to take care of them, and see them go through their metamorphosis.

Some activities we have completed include:
  • Discussing and presenting the Frog life cycle.
  • Reading and researching different books on Frogs.
  • Labeling parts of Frogs.
  • Singing songs about Frogs

Welcome back to school!

On Tuesday we all started back at school.  We are all very excited about the year ahead.  Here is a photo of our combined class.
